While visually helpful, error bars based on standard deviation are *not* a definitive test of statistical significance. If error bars do not overlap, it *suggests* a possible difference, but a formal statistical test is required to confirm whether that difference is statistically significant. Non-overlapping error bars are a good starting point for further analysis, but not proof of significance.
