While directly editing the registry is risky, you can use it to check for obvious errors. Open regedit.exe. Look for entries with incorrect data types or missing values. *However*, only modify entries if you are absolutely certain of the correct values and have a backup. Incorrect changes can render your system unusable. Avoid deleting keys unless you know exactly what they do.
